Welcome to Hillsborough Primary School I am delighted to welcome you to Hillsborough Primary School — a happy, caring and positive community where over 400 children aged 3 to 11 come to learn, grow and thrive. For 140 years, our historic building has stood at the heart of Hillsborough, and today it combines rich heritage with modern, ambitious learning.
Everything we do is guided by our ethos: Believe, Belong, Become. It underpins our teaching, our relationships and our whole-school culture.
A community where every child is known and valued
We take great pride in knowing every child and their families. Building strong relationships is central to our work, and we see parents and carers as partners. We work closely together to support children’s learning, wellbeing and personal development, recognising and celebrating their positive achievements — big and small — along the way.
Believe – building confidence, resilience and aspiration
We want every child to believe in themselves, recognise their strengths and feel inspired to aim high. We set high expectations for learning and behaviour, encouraging children to take risks, develop resilience and feel confident when challenges arise. By the time they leave us at the end of Year 6, our pupils achieve strong results and are ready for the next stage of their education with pride and self-belief.
Belong – being part of a caring, supportive community
Hillsborough is a place where children, families and staff feel they truly belong. We explore what community means — past and present — and help children understand their place in the world. Our links with local partners enrich our curriculum, including Sheffield Wednesday FC, Hillsborough Park, Wadsley Church and the Winn Gardens Pioneer Team. Families are offered varied opportunities to get involved and share in their child’s learning journey.
Become – inspiring children to grow, explore and succeed
Our aim is for every child to become the individual they aspire to be. We provide high-quality teaching, exciting topics and memorable experiences that open children’s eyes to the wider world. Our strong personal development programme nurtures independence, curiosity and confidence.
We also place great value on outdoor learning. Our children enjoy the wonderful green spaces around school and the park nearby, using them to explore, investigate and learn beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of our school and the community that surrounds it.

The Owl’s Nest Breakfast and After School Club at Hillsborough Primary School and Nursery provides a warm, nurturing environment where children feel safe, supported and engaged through high‑quality care, fun activities and a strong sense of community.
